Marmurigna

marmurigna

The Marmurigna is the oldest variety of grafting arrived in Sicily from the Greek world.

It is found exclusively in the eastern slopes of the Iblei Mountains.

Over time, its presence in the territory has decreased, replaced by other varieties considered by the man more productive.

Nevertheless, the Marmurigna is crucial for pollination of Tonda Iblea.
The Marmurigna plant as the Tonda Iblea is grown at a height above sea level up to 550/600 meters; This position, along with the exposure, naturally inhibits the so-called "olive fly" attack and therefore we do not have to use pesticides, making the oil totally organic. Another feature of the area is that there are minimal changes in temperature and also soils have  optimal drainage because they are shallow, medium consistency, rich in lime and divided in terraces from drywall.

The Marmurigna is an archaic majestic and vigorous plant, with thick, pointed and marble fruits. It gives the oil essential organoleptic characteristics that make it fall into the category "intense fruity"; a very fragrant oil, with distinct notes of bitter and spicy able to exalt the typical dishes of the Mediterranean cuisine.
