RDA

SodiumThis acronym stands for Recommended Daily Amount, and means "recommended daily dose" of a trace element (vitamins, minerals, etc.) by the OMS, the World Health Organization.

We shall now proceed to describe the various points of the nutritional table:

  • ENERGY VALUE: All fats have the same calories, i.e. 9 kilocalories per gram.
  • PROTEINS, CARBOHUDRATES, FIBER, SODIUM, CHOLESTEROL are absent in all olive oils.
  • FATS: all olive oils are pure fat, 100 ml of oil have a weight of 92 g (91,6 g to be precise).
  • Fats (SATURATED, MONOUSNSATURATED, POLYUNSATURATED) are important and consumer should know that it is essential to choose foods with the least possible SATURATED acids (which cause atherosclerosis and infarcts), as well as to reduce maximally POLYUNSATURATED acids (abundant in the oils of seeds) forming free radicals that accelerate the aging and the onset of some cancers. For this reason we should  underline that olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil, is the perfect seasoning while seed oils and solid fats of animal origin (butter, lard, meat fat in general) or vegetable (palm oil, coconut oil, margarine, etc.) because of their composition of fatty acids, should be used sparingly.
  • Vitamin E: its average value is equal to 18-19 mg and one portion of use (one tablespoon) contains 20% of the daily requirement.
